Meet Steve

I was born in 1938 on the then, feudal island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, where my forebears had lived for many centuries. Then in 1940 Hitler's Nazi hordes swarmed across European borders, finally capturing and occupying all of the Channel Islands, causing my brother Alan to be evacuated with his school to England, and eventually sending me and my parents into draconian captivity in Germany.
After the war we all returned to the Channel Islands, in the company of many other families and started to rebuild our shattered lives. I finished my education at Elizabeth College, and then completed my business training in London. There came a time in 1959 when I became restless and wanted to see a little more of an exciting new world and I joined the Northern Rhodesia Police (Now Zambia) which, was one of Great Britain's elite Colonial Police Forces. It was here I eventually specialised in the investigation of murders by witchcaft and also  in mounting anti-poaching patrols designed for the preservation and protection of wildlife.
After this hectic and somewhat dangerous period spent in Aftrica, I returned to Guernsey for some years, followed by a move to Jersey, where I lived happily for more than 20 years.   Having retired a few years ago, I now split my time between Brittany in France and China, on the Pearl River Delta, in the South China Seas.
I am married to Suzanne, or to give her a real title Dr Xue Fen Matthews B.Sc. M.PHIL, PhD. who also acts as my confidant, friend, IT manager, accountant and translator – when in China. So we are very happy to receive any messages in Chinese.

We are particularly proud of every one of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are all making their own, independent way in the world. Suzanne and I are both intrepid travellers and we try and visit several different countries each year.
